Boundary Scan Software is used to test printed circuit boards in electronic products such as cell phones, medical device and communication systems.
Boundary Scan Software uses a JTAG Boundary Scan Hardware interface to communicate with a Unit Under Test or UUT.
You can use Boundary Scan software to:
- Bring up Prototype circuit boards
- Configure Programmable devices such as CPLDs and FPGAs
- Program Devices like NAND or NOR FLASH
- Test new devices and systems for manufacturing defects like opens, shorts and stuck at failures.
The more powerful tools available make it easy to create tests for your device under test without needing to understand the details of JTAG and Boundary SCAN. Some tools, such as our XJDeveloper, let you create new tests not available with other tools.
Here are two screen shots of Boundary Scan Software being used for Prototype debug and bring up and Production test:
The first screenshot below is an example of a unique application of Boundary Scan software that allow users to wiggle pins and look for shorts and opens on surface mount devices with no physical test points on the board. It uses the power of Boundary Scan to access and control the pins on each device.
The second screenshot below shows our Boundary Scan Software being used for production test.
